Course Title: Outdoor Education: Year 11 September 2010 – July 2011 Provider: St James School Day course offered: Tuesday Course Description: This course will build on the learning during year 10, further developing your personal skills through Outdoor Education. You will experience a range of outdoor pursuit activities again and, together with activity skills, you will build your self-esteem, determination, confidence, self-reliance, leadership, communication and teamwork, responsibility, and awareness of self and others. You will be operating at a more advanced level this year and be working towards a number of national awards for different activities. You will be expected to be well organized and well motivated as you will be given more responsibility this year. You will further develop skills in rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, surfing, bush craft, orienteering, navigation and others. The course will be very physically and mentally demanding and you will be developing skills through being in tough and demanding situations. You will hopefully get the opportunity to go on an expedition. Although there will be practical activities every week, there will be a small amount of written work in most sessions. This will go towards developing a portfolio to show evidence of the skills that you are learning. Be prepared to go out in all weathers, bring plenty of warm clothing and boots if you have them, and expect to get wet! Qualification you will be entered for : BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport and Leisure or NVQ Level 1 in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations Courses that you could move on to post-16: Students could progress from this course onto a range of similar courses at Bicton College at level 1 or 2 including: Level 1 Outdoor Activity Leadership, NVQ Level 1 Outdoor Leisure, Level 2 Adventurous Activity Leadership, Level 2 First Diploma in Outdoor Leisure, Level 2 Apprenticeship in Sport, Recreation and Activity Leadership
