L2W course details for September 2009

Provider name : Combe Pafford Business and Enterprise School

Target Group: Year 10

Course description:
Do you like building things? Have you ever fancied trying your hand at bricklaying, plumbing and decorating? If so, this could be the course for you! The ‘Build a Future’ van will visit every Wednesday morning at a school near you and one of our tutors will deliver a structured construction course according to your ability that allows you to try all these skills.

You must have a genuine interest in the building trades, be prepared to learn new practical skills and follow simple health and safety instructions. You must also be prepared to work outside when cold. In return, you will have fun and gain valuable experience learning to mix mortar, lay bricks using a trowel, and build small walls and other structures.

You will also have a go at soldering copper pipe, plumbing in a toilet and basic decorating skills such as painting, wallpapering and tiling. All in all, it is a very practical course with only a small amount of written work for assessment purposes.

Accreditation: Edexcel BTEC Entry Level Certificate in Skills for Working Life (Practical Skills)

Additional Information : Overalls and steel toe-cap boots must be worn (supplied)
