Course Description: If you enjoy working outside and challenging yourself in different ways then this is the course for you! You will take part in a range of Outdoor and Adventurous activities such as;

Rock climbing & abseiling

Kayaking

Canoeing

Orienteering

as well as others. You will have fun developing your skills in these activities, but you will also develop your personal skills. You will build your self-esteem and become a more confident person. You will have to show determination and learn not to give up if things feel difficult or a little scary. You will have to learn to rely on yourself – and rely on others. You will also come to realize that others will be relying on you! We will develop your leadership abilities, as well as your communication and general teamwork skills. You will be responsible for your own and others safety, and learn to assess and manage risks.

At times the course will be very physically and mentally demanding and you will be developing these skills through being in tough and demanding situations. Be prepared to go out in all weathers, bring plenty of warm clothing and boots if you have them, and expect to get wet!

Although there will be practical activities every week, there will be a small amount of written work which you will need to complete to show evidence of the skills that you are learning. This will go towards developing a portfolio for assessment.

When you complete this course you could move onto a range of similar courses at Bicton College or Petroc at levels 1 or 2.

Qualification you will be entered for : NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Personal Development for the Outdoor Industry

Courses that you could move on to post-16: You could progress from this course onto a range of similar courses at Bicton College or Petroc at level 1 or 2 such as L2 BTEC Diploma in Sport ( Outdoor Adventure)
